A Summer of Furry Friends (and Farewell Parades) Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Sunday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Meet Clifford and one of the Berenstain Bears “in person” every day. Visit the exhibits Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog TM and The Berenstain Bears®: Down a Sunny Dirt Road and enjoy an end-of-the-day parade.


9 & 10– Saturday & Sunday,
Rochester Omnium Bicycling Weekend
Come to the museum for bicycle-themed family fun in celebration of the Rochester Omnium (a three-day competitive bicycling event taking place in Rochester on August 8, 9, & 10).  Watch on Saturday as artist Nancy Goethel creates a colorful bicycling scene made entirely of—balloons! (Her completed work will be on view Sunday.)  Enjoy a display of archival photos and historic bikes from the museum’s renowned collections. Make a visor and sign to cheer on the racers.

13 & 14 Saturday & Sunday—Talk Like a Pirate Weekend. In conjunction with
International Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19. Join Gary the Happy Pirate for
interactive songs; dance the Sea Leg Samba; learn to talk like a pirate; and watch a
cardboard artist create a seafaring scene. Included with general museum admission

20 & 21 Saturday & Sunday—Exhibit Opening, Curious George™: Let’s Get
Curious!
Environments and activities inspired by the beloved books of Margret and
H.A. Rey and the PBS KIDS television series. Get up close with Curious George,
the inquisitive little monkey with an insatiable taste for adventure. Curious Doug
(Doug Rougeux) presents a soap bubble spectacular Saturday at 12:30, 1:30, 2:30,
and 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. Plus, monkey games and

22 & 29 Mondays—Toddler Book Club. Readings of classic children’s tales at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. followed by music, movement, or nature activities. This month: Stories of the High Seas. Spirited pirate tales. Included with general

24 Wednesday—Making American Music. 7:30 p.m. Big Band Lives On.
The Johnny Matt Big Band takes a musical journey back to the days when Big Band

26 Friday—Deaf Awareness Day. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Family activities that foster
an appreciation of deaf culture. Performances by students from Rochester School
for the Deaf and Rochester City School No. 1. Crafts and activities using sign

27 & 28 Saturday & Sunday—Trains Weekend. All aboard for an action-packed trains weekend. See model train layouts by the Genesee-N-Ontario N-gineers, Tinplate Trackers, and RIT Model Railroad Club and an Operation Lifesaver safety display. Free rides on the Strong Express. OCTOBER 2008

2 Thursday—Lecture, The Benefits and Outcome of Puppet Play in Child Development. 7 p.m. Explore the benefits of the arts and puppet play in child development; how spontaneous puppet play happens; how to honor and respect play; how to facilitate and encourage puppet play; and what happens when adults don’t respect a child’s need for free play. Presented by Matthew Bernier, registered, board-certified art therapist and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Eastern Virginia Medical School. Weekend.
Meet Curious George “in person,” and enjoy a day of wacky word
games and puzzle activities. Puzzle book author Amy Goldstein presents a mindstretching interactive show where the audience gets to solve intriguing puzzles.
Presented in conjunction with the new Curious George exhibit. Included with

15 Wednesday—Making American Music. 7:30 p.m. Home Grown in
America.
John Rossbach and Andrew VanNorstrand perform folk, bluegrass, and
old country tunes about the railroads, freedom, and the immigrant experience.

20 Monday—Monday Kicks for Ages 2 to 6. 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Playful learning
activities designed for 2- to 6-year-olds, one Monday a month. This month:
Amazing Animals.
Visit the Wegmans ZooMobile and see some of the Seneca
Park Zoo’s coolest animal ambassadors. Meet Curious George “in person.”

25 & 26 Saturday & Sunday—Family Halloween Party. For all ages! Come in
costume and trick-or-treat with favorite storybook characters including Dorothy
from The Wizard of Oz, Amelia Bodelia, and Robin Hood. Enjoy music, games, and
crafts. Included with general museum admission fees.

27 Monday—Toddler Book Club. (See October 6 listing.)

31 Friday—Tots Halloween Party, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Safe indoor trick-or-treating
for preschoolers throughout the museum galleries. Come in costume and trick-ortreat
with Cinderella, Little Bo Peep and other storybook characters, and enjoy
music, crafts, and games. Included with general museum admission fees.
